The 113th Session of the International Labour Conference is currently taking place in Geneva, Switzerland, with the participation of government representatives and social partners from ILO member states.
The delegation of the Azerbaijan Trade Unions Confederation (AHIK), led by its Chairman, Mr. Sahib Mammadov, is actively participating in the event.
In his address at the session, Mr. Mammadov emphasized that protecting the labor rights of Azerbaijani citizens remains a top priority of the country’s state policy. He provided an overview of the initiatives undertaken to safeguard the labor, social, and economic rights of union members, to promote their health and safety, and to support their treatment and leisure. He also highlighted recent innovations and developments in this area.
The Chairman noted that the ILO has long been a reliable social partner for Azerbaijan. Since gaining independence, Azerbaijan has maintained close cooperation with the organization and has ratified 59 ILO conventions related to labor and workers’ rights.
Mr. Mammadov also addressed the challenges posed by global changes and emphasized the importance of joint efforts to mitigate potential risks. He specifically pointed to the effects of artificial intelligence and digitalization on employment and the labor market, stressing the need for the ILO to adopt new international standards to ensure continued protection of workers’ rights in a rapidly evolving world.
During the event, information was shared about ongoing reforms and projects within the Azerbaijani trade union system. These included initiatives such as the “Kurort” Tourism Information Center and the Center for Labor Protection and Legal Assistance under AHIK. It was also noted that a draft law proposing amendments to trade union legislation is currently under development.
The Azerbaijan Trade Unions Confederation reaffirmed its commitment to defending the rights of union members and to striving for the establishment of decent working conditions across the country.
